FAQ's

Is my baby too young?

We have no lower age limit on our classes, as babies can benefit from sensory stimulation from birth and so as soon as you are feeling ready, we would welcome you to join in with a class. It can be hugely beneficial for your health and wellbeing to attend a regular class with your baby, giving you the opportunity to be around other parents with babies of a similar age, and giving you a structure and routine to your day.

My baby is crawling/walking. Can they still attend?

Yes! We welcome babies up to 13 months old. As your baby grows and develops, they naturally want to start exploring their environment. If your baby spends some of the session in our exploratory play area or exploring around the room, or paying a visit to their Class Leader, it shows that they are becoming confident and curious, feel happy and safe within the environment, and have a secure bond with you.

What happens if I miss a class?

You are welcome to invite a friend (with a baby in the same age group) to take your place in class for that week. You are also welcome to attend at a different venue / day to your normal session as a 'catch up' session within the dates you have booked. Please email edinburghcity@babysensory.co.uk to request.

What is the class routine?

Our classes run for one hour. We start each session with our Say Hello to the Sun song, followed by sensory activities together as a group. There is a break in the middle of the session for exploratory play, and finally we return together for more sensory experiences before singing our Wave Goodbye song. Each session is different but we follow the same routine, mirroring baby's play-rest-play cycle in each class.

Can my baby’s older sibling attend?

Sorry, unfortunately we are not able to accommodate older siblings within our classes.

Can my partner attend?

Yes! We welcome partners, grandparents and other visitors within our classes. If there is someone in yours and your baby's life who you'd like to bring along for a session, they are very welcome. Please note that in full classes we may not be able to accommodate more than one adult around our mats but there is additional seating within each of our venues.

What if my baby cries or needs to be fed during the class?

Don’t worry! You are welcome and encouraged to attend to your baby’s needs as and when they come up, throughout the session. We don’t expect all babies to engage with all of the activities all of the time. Likewise if your little one falls asleep feel free to join in as much or as little as you’d like to depending on what’s going on that session. It’s also very normal especially for our younger babies to take a few sessions to adjust to all the stimulation – after all everything is so new to them.
