Our Multi-Award winning classes are back in September!
We're so excited to be able to resume our venue classes and what makes it even more exciting is that we will be in our very own building - the Baby Sensory & Toddler Sense WOW Centre based in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland.
The WOW Centre is the home for our Hello Baby, Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense programmes. The timetable of classes will be released very shortly. For now, please register your interest in our classes by clicking on the 'Book Now' button below which will take you to the registration page. We will then keep you informed of developments and by registering you will also have priority booking once booking opens!
In order to make everything run as smoothly and as safely as possible can you please read the following information carefully BEFORE YOU BOOK A PLACE on the Autumn term.
Class sizes have been significantly reduced in order to comply with social distancing guidelines and therefore there will be a maximum of 8 parents/babies per class (each individual mat will be spaced 2 metres apart).
Whilst adults need to maintain a safe distance away from each other as much as possible, it is unrealistic to expect mobile babies to remain seated on their mats for the full 45 minutes. Parents will do their best to encourage their baby to stay in their allocated area however by booking either a mobile class (7-13 months) or mixed age class (birth-13 months) you are accepting that there is a high probability that mobile babies may be moving around the matted areas.
Face coverings are optional. A lot of our activities are designed to promote and strengthen the parent-baby bond which require your baby to watch your mouth and facial expressions when talking and singing. If you have an active mobile baby who loves to explore their surroundings, you may wish to bring a face covering with you to pop on if you need to retrieve your baby who is nearby other adults.
You will be given your own individual prop boxes at the start of each class which will contain all of the resources you need for the session.
Due to the spacing and layout of the mats things will be a little different for a while, so, until we can get back to normal there will be:
NO GROUP ACTIVITIES - this includes all cloths and resources which we hold together for e.g. parachutes, sensory canopies, play-bands etc.
NO EXPLORATORY PLAY AREA. I will therefore run 45-minute sessions rather than the usual 1 hour. We will still have a short 5-10-minute break in between activities to give babies that all-important rest break. Your prop box will include toys/resources for your baby to play with during the break if they wish to.
HOWEVER, our classes will still provide the WOW factor that you may be accustomed to or have heard about from friends - we will still have our puppet shows, light shows and lots of other stimulating sensory experiences! I will do my utmost to make the sessions amazing and I promise that when social distancing is relaxed our classes will resume as normal with the addition of the above activities and play area.
All props, mats and touch points will be thoroughly cleaned in between sessions. Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance and various other points around the building. Absolutely everything (and I mean everything - toilets, sinks, floors, walls, ceilings, lights, even the boiler!) is brand new and squeaky clean!
The address is: WOW Centre, 2 Dundas Street, Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, SR6 0AY. There is a free small car park opposite and free street parking on Dundas Street, however, both of these are usually very busy so please allow yourself enough time to find another parking space and walk to the Centre. You may park for free in the residential streets beside the Centre after 10am (permits restrict you from parking there before 10am). Parking is also available on Thomas Street North and Sunderland Retail Park just a few mins walk away. If you arrive on foot, there is a small buggy park available in the WOW Centre entrance area. You may need to fold up your pram/pushchair.
Please see below the class timetable for the Autumn term which will run for 7 weeks from w/c 7 September. There are two types of classes available to book:
BABY SENSORY (suitable from birth to 13 months) - Baby Sensory provides ideas for creative play, tummy time, movement, visual development, textures, scents and music in simple practical ways that can be easily repeated at home . We also use a combination of original and traditional songs and rhymes to develop early speech and language skills, and sensory signing activities to help you and your baby communicate from birth. I have split these classes by age AND mobility so if your baby is younger than 7 months but is now crawling then please book the older group. There are a couple of mixed age classes (0-13 months) too.
HELLO BABY (suitable from birth to 3 months) - Hello Baby is a mixture of massage, yoga, reflexology and gentle sensory stimulation. Each week concentrates on a different area of the body. You will learn the various techniques in class which will be supported with a set of notes you can use at home. This Autumn the Hello Baby class will be 5 Hello Baby sessions followed by 2 Baby Sensory sessions so 7 weeks in total.
Once booked onto a class this will become your 'bubble' for the duration of the term and it will not be possible for you to attend other sessions should you miss your own class that week due to appointments, holidays, sickness etc.
In the event of a local lockdown or if the WOW Centre needs to close temporarily because someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 has listed the class venue as a place they visited recently, some or all of the remaining sessions in the term will be provided either in a live Zoom session or a pre-recorded video. Classes cannot be refunded or rolled over to subsequent terms.
Your information would also need to be shared with the NHS Test & Trace system. NHS Test and Trace will handle all data according to the highest ethical and security standards and ensure it is used only for the purposes of protecting public health, including minimising the transmission of COVID-19.
