About the classes

** CORONAVIRUS UPDATE, MARCH 2020 **

Please note, classes at all our venues are temporarily postponed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

But don’t worry! You can take part in your own home with our Baby Sensory @HOME online classes, using Zoom video conferencing to entertain and stimulate your baby.

Why not give us a go? Free trials are available. More information and FAQs are below.

Our award winning Baby Sensory classes are normally held weekly at:

  • The Sensory Space, Ware (accessed via Kibes Lane car park)
  • Bengeo Cricket Club, Hertford
  • The Pavillion, Welwyn Garden City
  • Rye-Assic Park, Hoddesdon (drop-in)

Classes at venues last one hour, with approximately timings as follows: 20 minutes of structured activities followed by 20 minutes exploratory play and another 20 minutes of activities.

Our terms are 10 weeks long but you are welcome to join at any point during the term.  We run a different session every week of the year so you will not be at risk of repeating classes.

@ HOME classes follow a different format as they do not include an exploratory play break, but there is a minimum of 30 minutes of activities designed to support your baby’s development, as well as time before and after class for questions, technical issues and the chance to catch up with other mums if you wish.

@ HOME classes are provided using free Zoom video conferencing, which can be accessed with a phone, iPad, computer or smart TV.

Each week we’ll send you a unique link giving you access to your chosen class.  You don't need to have a Zoom account, but you will be prompted to download the software the first time you join. We will also offer you a ‘test call’ before your first class to make sure it all works.

Baby Sensory @HOME Frequently Asked Questions

When will the @HOME classes take place?

From Monday 23rd March, online classes will run at the same time as our normal scheduled classes. However, this may change depending on the demand from customers and the availability of class leaders.

How will I access the @HOME classes?

Joining via Zoom is easy! You will be sent a unique link to access your class, which will automatically open in your web browser and download the Zoom software.

You may also like to download the free Zoom meeting app onto your phone, iPad, computer or smart TV, using the links below. If you don’t have a smart TV, you may be able to watch on a normal TV by connecting your computer with an HDMI cable.

Apple Store: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/zoom-cloud-meetings/id546505307

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=us.zoom.videomeetings

What if I’m terrible with technology…

Don’t worry. We will send you a detailed user guide for Zoom and the option for a test call to check everything works.

What if I can’t access the @HOME classes or my internet connection is too slow?

In the unlikely event that you can’t access the @HOME classes live, we can still send you a recording which can be downloaded and viewed in your own time. Please contact us to request this.

What if I miss a class?

If you can’t make the class you have booked, please contact us and you may be able to swap to a different day or time during that week. Alternatively we can send you a recording of the class to watch in your own time.

How long will the classes be?

A minimum of 30 minutes of activities, with extra time allowed at the start of class for questions / introductions and at the end for parents to chat if they wish.

What about the exploratory play break?

The online classes will not include a break for exploratory play as we are not able to provide this virtually. However, we will give you plenty of ideas of how to play with your baby at home!

Will it be the same content as my normal classes?

Obviously there are some challenges with providing classes online and we will need to make some adjustments to activities to ensure you can join in at home. However, we will still offer a wide range of activities with explanations about how your baby will benefit.

Will I need any special equipment or props?

Each week we will send you a list of props (if any) that we will be using during the class, many of which you will be able to either make or find around the house. Or you can also purchase official Baby Sensory merchandise via your class leader or the online Baby Sensory shop (www.babysensoryshop.co.uk).

Will I be able to talk to the other mums?

Of course! You are welcome to chat away online before or after the class.

What if I can’t get my baby to watch the screen? Will they still benefit?

Absolutely! Just like in class, your baby may choose to watch the class leader but ideally they will be watching you, while enjoying the music provided.

What if my baby never keeps still?

Just like in class, older babies may prefer to roam around during the session but they will still enjoy hearing the familiar music and voice of your class leader and you will benefit from lots of play ideas to try again in your own time.

I have an older child - can they join in?

Yes, older children are more than welcome! And don’t worry about them making a noise, we will mute your individual microphones so you will only hear the class leader during the activities.

When will the normal classes resume?

We are keeping a close eye on the government advice in regards to social distancing and will update you as soon as we are able to return to our usual venues.
